After the Build: Eight Gaps People Hit Once the No-Code App Works

GapMine's live dataset holds 1,178 gap cards of public software demand. These eight are the ones where people had already built the app, and then asked for reliability, data portability and cost control.

We went looking for the next no-code builder request and found the opposite. Of 1,178 gap cards in GapMine's live dataset, only 141 have four or more distinct people publicly asking for the same missing thing. Eight of those 141 share one moment: the app or workflow already exists, it was built fast, and now it leaks. Ninety-one distinct people sit behind those eight cards, and each card already has more than ten rivals detected shipping something adjacent. The crowded part of this market is the building. The thin part is day thirty.

The entry door is still busiest. Our no-code app builder selection gap holds 30 people and 25 rivals detected, mostly people with no coding background picking a platform before they commit. They want to know which existing builder will not trap them.

Then the data wants to move. The Notion and Adalo database bridge carries 20 people against 13 rivals detected, the lowest rival count in the top three. Records live in one tool, the interface in another, and the join is manual.

The sharpest quote belongs to the workflow automation evaluation gap, 12 people and 26 rivals detected. Two months on Lovable, an internal order tracker that works, then: "Every small change is a prompt, every prompt costs credits." That is a maintenance complaint wearing a tool-choice costume.

Specific jobs break first. The event registration plugin gap has 7 people and 17 rivals detected, and the recurring detail is scale with a shape: one annual event, roughly a thousand participants.

Pricing is the other exit. The no-code database alternative shows 6 people and 19 rivals detected. People leave over price increases, not features.

We would look hardest at the n8n production readiness tester: 6 people and 31 rivals detected, the most crowded card here, and still nobody solves the thing described. A workflow that silently succeeds while doing nothing. Thirty-one shipping tools help you build workflows. The ask is one that tells you yours is dead.

Same shape one layer down. Browser automation stability has 5 people and 14 rivals detected, and the asks are about surviving account management and long test runs, not new scripting syntax.

Cost lands last. The AI agent cost control gap has 5 people and 16 rivals detected, all from people who already automate and want the bill to stop growing.

The pattern

Across the pool, 842 of 1,178 cards fall into our crowded bucket, meaning ten or more rivals. All eight sit in it. So the opportunity is not an empty category. It is a stage of the customer's life that shipping products skip. Builders sell the first week. Nothing here sells the sixth month. We saw a version of this in the gaps where people ask for fewer features, and it is why hunting empty niches usually turns up less than the listicles promise. The honest wedge is narrow: pick one platform, sell reliability or cost visibility for what people already built on it.

Honest limits

We count distinct people who posted publicly, mostly on Reddit and Hacker News. Anyone who wanted this and stayed quiet is invisible to us, so every count here is a floor, not a market size.

Our rival scan has a recall ceiling. "14 rivals detected" means our scan found fourteen, not that fourteen is the true total. A good product can exist and we can miss it, which is why we never write that nothing exists.

Four or five askers is a real signal and a small sample at once. Of the 1,178 cards in the pool, 1,037 sit at three or fewer askers, so this set is already the upper tail. Read the threads before you build.

Each quote is one post from one person, not a summary of its cluster. Card dates are when we logged the cluster, not when demand started.

All numbers from GapMine's live dataset, same pool the site renders, as of 2026-10-16.
