How GapMine finds real opportunities
13 sources. 5-layer algorithm. Every morning.
The problem with idea validation
Most tools make you come up with the idea first, then validate it. GapMine flips this: we scan the market every day and tell you where the gaps are. You don't search — the system pushes signals to you.
13 data sources, $0 total
We pull demand signals from Hacker News, 5 Reddit communities, IndieHackers, Stack Overflow, and GitHub Issues. Supply signals come from ProductHunt, GitHub Trending, and review sites like G2 and Capterra. Trend triggers from TechCrunch and Guardian Tech round out the picture.
Every source is free. Total data cost: $0/month.
5-layer scoring
When the same need appears independently on multiple platforms, that's a real signal. Logarithmic scoring prevents one viral post from dominating.
How many people are asking vs. how many products exist? We check ProductHunt launches, GitHub repos, and competitor review scores.
Is this need growing or fading? Velocity detection with degradation — we don't compute speed until we have 14 days of baseline data.
Can one person build this? Quick builds (≤5 days) get full score. Complex builds (15-30 days) get 40%. Hardware and regulatory projects are eliminated.
"I would pay" (weak signal) vs. "I currently pay $45/mo for X but it doesn't do Y" (strong signal). Revealed preference beats stated preference 3:1.
Self-adaptive weights
The algorithm starts with static weights but gets smarter over time. User behavior (what you watch, expand, dismiss), market validation (did someone build it?), and outcome tracking all feed back into weight adjustments. By month 6, the system is optimizing from real data, not guesses.
What you see every morning
Top 10 opportunities, ranked by composite score. Each card shows the strongest user voice, how many people are asking, which platforms, and a buildability estimate. Expand any card for the full 5-layer analysis, competitor breakdown, and concrete validation steps.
