Ecommerce Gaps 2026: Eight Things Store Owners Asked For and Could Not Find
We filtered the 167 ecommerce cards in GapMine to the ones where at least four different people asked for the same missing thing. Seven of the top eight sit downstream of the sale: payments, fulfillment, supplier checks and migration, not storefront builders.
GapMine's pool holds 1,080 open demand cards today, and 167 of them sit in ecommerce. We filtered that slice to the cards where at least four different people publicly asked for the same missing thing, then took the eight with the most distinct askers. Almost none of them are storefront ideas. They are about the boring middle of running a store: taking money, moving boxes, checking a supplier, getting off a platform you already pay for.
| Gap | People asking | Rivals detected | What they said |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dropshipping Setup Guide | 17 people | 9 rivals detected | "I'm 14y/o living in Sri Lanka and I just thought what ab I make my own money" |
| Shopify Payment Gateway | 11 people | 22 rivals detected | "I don't need a US LLC / UK LTD / foreign partner to get Stripe" |
| Competitor Price Monitoring | 9 people | 18 rivals detected | "the annoying part wasn't noticing that something changed. It was figuring out exactly what changed" |
| Shopify To WooCommerce Migration | 7 people | 5 rivals detected | "Done with Shopify POS fees piling up, what are people actually switching to?" |
| TikTok Shop Fulfillment Service | 7 people | 7 rivals detected | "I've never really used Shopify before, so this is the first store I'm actually trying to grow" |
| Shopify Custom Order Manager | 6 people | 7 rivals detected | "We can store and track customer-provided tracking numbers" |
| TikTok Shop Video Monetizer | 6 people | 2 rivals detected | "I've grown a TikTok page to nearly 1M views and 10k followers in 2 weeks" |
| Reliable Supplier Finder | 5 people | 12 rivals detected | "gone to check their Trustpilot. And for almost every single one i've checked ... Has loads of 1 star reviews" |
Payments is the clearest paid problem here. Sellers outside the US and UK trying to take card payments brought 11 people and 22 rivals detected. A lot ships in that space. None of it answers the question being asked, which is what a founder in Nigeria or Pakistan does when Stripe says no and PayPal holds the cash for weeks.
Watching what a rival store changed pulled 9 people and 18 rivals detected. Read the quote closely. The tools already send alerts. The gap is the diff: what exactly moved, on which listing, and whether it matters. That is a much smaller product than "price intelligence platform".
Migration is where the scan goes quiet. Leaving Shopify for WooCommerce has 7 people asking and only 5 rivals detected, the thinnest supply in this set. People are not shopping for features. They are doing arithmetic on POS fees and want to know what the move actually costs them.
Fulfillment for TikTok Shop sellers has 7 people and 7 rivals detected. The askers are not comparing 3PL quotes. They have never run a store before and want to know who ships the boxes.
Orders that do not fit the standard Shopify shape drew 6 people and 7 rivals detected. Repairs, made-to-order work, customer-supplied tracking numbers. Small, specific, and the sort of thing a single developer can ship in a month.
Turning TikTok views into orders is the thinnest card on this page: 6 people and 2 rivals detected. Someone with a million views in two weeks and no way to convert them is a buyer with urgency.
Checking whether a supplier is real has 5 people and 12 rivals detected. The quote describes doing it by hand, store by store, through Trustpilot. That is a workflow waiting to be automated by whoever bothers.
The pattern
Seven of these eight sit downstream of the sale. Nobody in this set asked for a better storefront builder. They asked for money in, boxes out, and an exit route. Supply is not the constraint either: on our numbers most of these cards already have double-digit rivals detected, and people kept asking anyway. We wrote about that mismatch before in our look at crowded categories that are still open, and this ecommerce slice is the same shape.
Honest limits
Our rival scan has a recall ceiling. A low count means we did not detect much, not that nothing exists, so treat a thin card as a prompt to go look rather than a green light. Demand counts are distinct public posters, not buyers, and someone complaining on Reddit has not agreed to pay you. These counts are also small in absolute terms: across the whole pool of 1,080 cards, 973 carry only one to three people and just 16 carry twelve or more, so four or five askers is genuinely on the high end of what public demand looks like. Cards are dated, and a gap from April may have been filled since. Check the card page before you build.
